Accessibility Statement
The Plant Institute Inc. is committed to making plantinstitute.org usable by the widest possible audience, including people who rely on assistive technology. Effective date: January 15, 2026.
Our commitment
We design and build plantinstitute.org with the goal of substantial conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium.
What we do
- Semantic HTML markup with proper heading hierarchy for screen readers.
- Descriptive alt text on all content-carrying imagery.
- Skip-to-content link at the top of every page for keyboard users.
- Keyboard-navigable navigation menus, forms, and interactive elements.
- Color contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG AA thresholds for body text.
- Scalable typography that responds to browser zoom without loss of content.
- Form fields with clear labels, required-field indicators, and error handling.
- Responsive layout tested from 320-pixel mobile viewports up to widescreen desktop.
- Prefers-reduced-motion respected for decorative transitions.
Known limitations
Our site links to third-party PDFs, external research portals, and hotlinked imagery hosted on Unsplash. The accessibility of those third-party resources is outside our direct control, though we select providers with reasonable accessibility practices where possible.
